Prof. Dr. Günter Hafız treats adults who travel to Istanbul for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of tumours of the head and neck. The practice holds the International Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health, and first contact is by WhatsApp.
Before you travel
Send a short message on WhatsApp describing your diagnosis or symptoms, and attach what you already have: pathology or biopsy reports, imaging (CT, MRI, PET or ultrasound) with their written reports, a summary of any previous treatment and a list of your medicines. Prof. Hafız reviews the documents and lets you know whether a consultation in Istanbul is the right next step, what it would involve and how long a stay is likely to be needed. Dates are agreed before you book travel.
Your consultation in Istanbul
The consultation takes place at the practice in Selenium Plaza, Beşiktaş, on the European side of Istanbul, Monday to Saturday between nine in the morning and five in the afternoon. Bring the original reports and imaging on disc or as files, and bring a family member if you wish: the diagnosis and the treatment options are explained to you both, until the next steps are clear.
If surgery is planned
Operations take place in hospital under general anaesthesia. Where the operation is performed, how long the hospital stay is likely to be and how long you should plan to remain in Istanbul for follow-up before flying home are explained at the consultation. Reports and the pathology result are given to you in writing for your doctors at home, and follow-up after your return can be arranged by WhatsApp.
Insurance and fees
Private health insurance from the insurers listed on the insurance page is accepted. If you have international cover, ask on WhatsApp before your visit whether it applies. Fees are discussed at your first visit.
Authorisation
The practice holds the International Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate, no. ST-1667, issued by the General Directorate of Health Services of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health. The certificate confirms that the practice is entitled to operate in the field of international health tourism within the scope of the Regulation on International Health Tourism and Tourist’s Health.
